2024 Year-End SummaryI have a feeling this will be a rambling account, but so be it.Steady Progress on the Research PathIn fact, I increasingly feel that I am more suited to industry than academia. Perhaps I should be thankful that I chose an engineering doctorate.Over the past year, my research progress has been quite slow. A project I've been working on for almost a year and a half has yet to yield results. Even though the paper's text is already written, I still need to supplement experiments to further improve performance. It's a pity I didn't implement server usage time tracking; if I pulled the data, I might even top the charts! During this time, I even wrote a script to send me an email when experiments finished so I could check results quickly, but later I deleted it because it felt too oppressive. (* ̄︿ ̄)Apart from my own project, there is also a collaborative project with another lab. At least this year we managed to produce an encoded image, yay! But it will still take some time before we have actual outputs like papers. Currently, the professors from both labs are unsure about the next direction. I hope they reach a conclusion soon so I can determine the next improvement plan.I hope I can submit the paper early next year, ahhh! Server, please work harder and run faster. No Poetry, but Distant Horizons RemainSince deciding not to work overtime on weekends, I feel that life has become much happier. In 2023, because I wanted to push myself (or for other reasons), I felt I couldn't truly relax. This year, whether alone or with friends, I've gone off campus noticeably more often. I used to think I was quite a homebody, but now I find going out for a walk isn't bad. I visited many cities (Shanghai, Chuzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Hefei, Shaoxing, Weihai, Wuxi , and surprisingly, only the first two were not for business trips), and also returned to my hometown twice (Yichun, my hateful native soil, yet that nostalgia...). In Nanjing, I also explored many places, like walking 30,000 steps in a day to cover all the scenic spots around Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and such. The reason for this change might be that I bought a used car at the beginning of the year (my wallet suddenly deflated), and the root cause was the inconvenience of getting around in my hometown (and some reasons that forced me to be independent). On the other hand, I also got the Jiangsu Three-Free Card, which allows free bus and subway rides, and many scenic spots are free to enter! ヾ(≧▽≦*)oBut compared to scenic spots, participating in various events feels even more joyful. My favorite event this year was probably ChiliChill's tour; the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic! Of course, BA Only was also pretty good.Whoa, It's the 2D World!Compared to last year, this year I had more time to detach myself from the phenomenal world and immerse myself in one story after another. My favorite anime this year is undoubtedly Too Many Losing Heroines!. The animation is exquisite, and the youthful feeling created by the story is memorable enough. After watching the anime, I couldn't help but finish the original light novel. I am Koju Chika's dog! 2024 Year-End Summary
I have a feeling this will be a rambling account, but so be it.
Steady Progress on the Research Path
In fact, I increasingly feel that I am more suited to industry than academia. Perhaps I should be thankful that I chose an engineering doctorate.
Over the past year, my research progress has been quite slow. A project I've been working on for almost a year and a half has yet to yield results. Even though the paper's text is already written, I still need to supplement experiments to further improve performance. It's a pity I didn't implement server usage time tracking; if I pulled the data, I might even top the charts! But it will still take some time before we have actual outputs like papers. Currently, the professors from both labs are unsure about the next direction. I hope I can submit the paper early next year, ahhh! Server, please work harder and run faster.
No Poetry, but Distant Horizons Remain
Since deciding not to work overtime on weekends, I feel that life has become much happier. In 2023, because I wanted to push myself (or for other reasons), I felt I couldn't truly relax. This year, whether alone or with friends, I've gone off campus noticeably more often. I used to think I was quite a homebody, but now I find going out for a walk isn't bad.
